23.3.2015, 15:00 Jungiusstr. 11, Hörsaal AP | SFB 668 - Sonder-Kolloquium Prof. Dr. A. Balatsky (Nordic Institute for Theoretical Physics Nordita, Stockholm, Sweden): Impurity Band Engineering in Superconductors and MajoronicsImpurities in semiconductors can be used to engineer bands and control
electronic properties with high precision. Similar approach to
engineered impurity bands in superconductors has only now began to be
explored. Promising approach in this direction is the use of magnetic
impurities and control of Yu Shiba Rusinov intragap states [1].
Detailed look reveals new aspects of single impurity states and
impurity bands that local probes now can measure. Zero energy YSR
states are often invoked as a path to Majorana states in
superconductors[2,3]. To frame this approach I call it majoronics. I
will discuss impurity bands, interplay of magnetic and potential
scattering and role these impurity states can play in enabling the
technology to create and manipulate majorana bouns states.
