Domain walls and ripple structure of thin cobalt films

In the MFM image on the left a cross tie domain wall of a 50 nm thick polycrystalline cobalt film imaged with a out of plane magnetized tip. Far away from the domain wall the contrast is inhomogeneous due to the variations of the magnetization direction within the domain (ripple structure). The sketch on the right side indicate the distribution of magnetic charges at the surface of this quite complex domain wall structure.
