Domain writing with MFM on ultrathin cobalt films

The MFM image on the left shows nine circular domains, which have been nucleated in a thin polycrystalline cobalt film by touching the surface with the tip. While keeping the force constant, the radius of such stress induced domains increases with the duration of the tip-sample contact (see graph on the right side).
