Cobalt-Platium Multilayer
![]() |
The CoPt multilayer film consists of cobalt layers and exhibits a strong out of plane anisotropy. Therefore, it is well suited to test the tip magnetization.
The bright areas in the figure correspond to parallel magnetization of tip and sample, while dark areas correspond to antiparallel configuration. Domains of reversed polarity are separated by a domain wall.
Due to the large coercivity and a nearly rectangular hysteresis curve of the CoPt-multilayer, the behaviour of the tip magnetization in external magnetic fields can be studied without any change in the domain structure of the sample. Both images in the figure show the same sample area recorded with the same tip, but reversed tip magnetization, i.e. bright areas in the left image appear dark in the right image and vice versa.
